Having a Doula in my opinion is invaluable. Ruth helped me throughout my pregnancy, birth and in the first few weeks of Oliver being around.
She helped me figure out what I wanted during my labour and what choices I had. Once I had decided I wanted a natural birth; no pain relief, the chord wasn’t to be cut straight away and I didn’t want to stay in hospital overnight if everything with Oliver and I was ok, I didn’t have to worry about anything else as Ruth dealt with it.
Ruth informed everyone throughout my labour of what I wanted and made sure people stuck to it, leaving my partner and I less to think about. She was there when everything got a bit too much for my partner and mum and was amazing.
Even after Oliver was born she sat with me at 2am helping me to get Oliver to feed properly and calming me down as I was upset about one thing and another. Even just having her around to make me something to eat or a cup of tea made all the difference. Ruth was a big help and I would certainly recommend her to anyone expecting child, whether its your first or 4th!

Just having someone who you can call anytime, who knows how things work and is so welcoming takes most of the newborn worries away. I would recommend Ruth to anyone, the help and support she gave me and my partner was invaluable.
Ruth was both my Birth and Post Natal Doula 3 years ago when I had my little girl. Paige was my forth child and Ruth was my first Doula. What a difference! Ruth was there every step of the way. Taking myself and my partner to hospital for appointments and the delivery. Ruth was with me throughout my labour and birth and nothing was too much for her. Calming me down when it all seemed too much and supporting my partner, and family, when needed. She stayed and took us home afterwards.
As a Post natal doula Ruth would 'pop' over if I requested and would help out in anyway she could with advise and care , if necessary for myself and my new daughter.
Having a Doula took the stress and concern out of having my baby, making it a more relaxing and pleasurable experience.

I had planned a homebirth. For various reasons I ended up delivering in hospital. Ruth helped make it as close to a homebirth as was possible. Speaking for me when I was not able to do so, being there at every stage. I am convinced that without Ruth, having my baby would not have been as good an experience as it was.
